Why I Broke Up with my Beauty Blender

Happy Monday / President’s Day All!

I am luckily just hanging out today, because I am off from school! I thought it was a perfect day to lock down some blog/Instagram content and write this post that I have been thinking about for a while now.

So, I don’t know about you, but my winter skin has been BRUTAL! You guys, I have been looking back at pics from this summer (don’t recommend), and looking at my nearly flawless summer skin and practically crying. I have been having CRAY chin/around the mouth breakouts,  my entire face is completely dry and when I put makeup on, I don’t feel much better honestly.

My point? My winter skin has been a complete mess. Because of all of this, I have been really refining my skin care regimen, and it has lead me to write this blog post.

Last week I got totally fed up with my skin, so I marched over to Stop and Shop and CVS to find some go-to products. Aveeno has always been a #1 in my heart, and I honestly don’t know why I ever stopped using it! I think because when I am sent things, or see a new skin care fad, I change over, without thinking that my skin might not like it has much as my eyes do. I picked up Aveeno Clear Complexion Foaming Cleanser (Contains Salicylic acid), Aveeno Clear Complexion daily moisturizer (Contains Salicylic acid) and Neutrogena On-the-Spot Vanishing Cream Formula that (contains 2.5 % Benzoyl Peroxide.)

I have had a lot of luck with these three products, and have been using them all consistently every single day. The On-the-Spot treatment is very drying, but that is what is stopping new spots from coming to the surface, so I am okay with it!

Now, onto the title of this post and why I am writing this, I completely broke up with my beauty blender last week. I had a perfectly good foundation brush just sitting in my mason jar and thought, why don’t I give this a try finally!? Beauty blenders are cool and all, but they really highlight the dryness of my skin and when I drag it across my forehead or around my nose, it brings out all the dry flakes that I just tried getting rid of with my moisturizer…I just cannot take it anymore! They absorb nearly all the makeup I apply to my face (hello wasteful?!) and I absolutely DREAD getting a new one, because then it’s back to square one with absorbing ALL of my makeup. With my e.l.f. Cosmetics Ultimate Blending Brush, I don’t get the same dry flakey look the second I apply my makeup, and I feel like it is so much cleaner!!

Foundation & Concealer wise: I have been using Clinque Acne Solutions (Contains Salicylic acid) and Almay Clear Complexion Concealer (Contains Salicylic acid), because I cannot take any more chances on my poor chin!! Once this rough patch clears up, I will be back to using either Maybelline Fit Me or Rimmel Stay Matte — my go-tos!

For now, I am totally hooked on applying my makeup with a brush, but who knows, maybe I will enjoy a beauty blender again in the summer—you know, when my face isn’t screaming for my constant love and attention.

Thank you to all who voted on my Instagram Story: Blender or Brush! It is 18 hours into the vote and so far, 57% of you said Beauty Blender, and 43% of you said brush. Beauty Blender peeps: what is working for you and do you experience any of the problems I was having? Brush peeps: why do you chose a brush over a blender? I would LOVE to hear your thoughts!

XOXO,
Rae

BONUS: I HAD to include The Ouai Leave in Conditioner in my photo because not only do I love the packaging BUT I also love the product! Check it out here: LINK (it smells FAB!)IMG_5656.jpg
